Go ChristinaChristina Weir Defends the New Rahne
22Jul04

Today at the Grind Stone, New X-Men: Academy X writer Christina Weir responded to fan concerns about Rahne's behaviors in recent issues.

"Rahne has taken the first step to moving back to the good girl she once was. Time will tell if that move will be smooth or bumpy."
"The way we see it (and Marvel and/or continuity buffs may have a slightly different point of view), Rahne was without her powers for several years. Josh called her a Catholic School girl. And while he got the denomination wrong, he had a fairly succinct view of her personality. And as anyone who has been in college with a former Catholic School girl who is cutting loose can tell you, when someone swings from good girl to rebellious girl, they swing hard. Rahne spent her 'powerless' years cutting loose and trying to find a wilder side. It'll take time to reign that in.

"Getting the wolf back was a big step for Rahne. But it wasn't the end of the story. Moreover, having been without it for several years and then getting it back through unnatural means may make it harder to adjust. But that isn't even the issue. The issue that her temper and her impetuous actions with Josh show that the wild side she cultivated won't go away quite so easily.

"In calling it off with Josh, Rahne has taken the first step to moving back to the good girl she once was. Time will tell if that move will be smooth or bumpy."
